Need Ideas for Visually Beautiful but Deeply Uncomfortable Studio Photos (Final Project Help!)
Hi!
I’m currently doing a photography course, and for my final project I need to shoot in a studio, either product-style setups or portraits.
The main goal is to prove I really understand lighting and how to control a studio environment.
I want to go in a slightly weird direction.
My idea is to create a series of 3 highly polished, beautifully lit photos that make people feel subtly (or extremely) uncomfortable.
Clean, commercial-level lighting… but the subject matter is just wrong.
Some ideas I’m playing with:
-Milk being poured next to a glass instead of into it
-A sandwich with a soap bar in between
-Raw broccoli with shaving cream styled like whipped cream (maybe with the can next to it)
Basically: things that look almost like ads at first glance… until your brain catches up.
I love the tension between “this is aesthetically pleasing” and “why does this make me feel uneasy?”
Does anyone have ideas for other strange object combinations that could look visually beautiful but conceptually disturbing?
I’m especially interested in things that would photograph well under clean studio lighting ,strong shapes, good textures, interesting contrasts.
Appreciate any weird brain
