Dance the Magic’s Pixie Dust in Paradise: A gathering for dance educators

Our take

Dance the Magic's announcement of "Pixie Dust in Paradise" arrives at a crucial moment when dance educators desperately need spaces for renewal and connection. This gathering represents more than a conference—it's a movement toward recognizing the human element in artistic instruction, much like how Book review: Gavin Larsen and Gene Schiavone's 'Infinite Steps: Thirty-three Dancers and Their Lives in Ballet illuminates the personal journeys behind professional artistry. As dance continues evolving beyond traditional boundaries, we must remember that educators themselves are artists deserving investment, inspiration, and intentional community—exactly what this Hawaiian retreat promises to deliver.

Dance the Magic’s Pixie Dust in Paradise: A gathering for dance educators

The convergence of professional development with celebration mirrors broader shifts we're seeing across the performing arts landscape. Consider how Actress Katie Holmes to be honored at ABT's 2026 Spring Gala recognizes crossover excellence, or how Dance takes center stage in Lincoln Center's 'Summer for the City' brings dance into mainstream cultural conversations. Dance educators fuel this expansion, yet they often work in isolation, pouring energy into others while depleting their own reserves. Pixie Dust in Paradise addresses this crisis of sustainability with radical compassion.

What makes this conference particularly significant is its recognition that excellence emerges from rejuvenation, not exhaustion. In my own journey balancing motherhood, marriage, and movement instruction, I've learned that self-care isn't selfish—it's essential. When educators gather in intentionality, surrounded by natural beauty and creative energy, they rediscover their own sparkle. This isn't indulgence; it's professional responsibility. How can we teach others to shine while dimming our own lights?

The timing with Dance the Magic's silver anniversary adds profound symbolism. Twenty-five years of spreading joy through movement deserves celebration that honors both legacy and future possibilities. For educators who may feel undervalued in traditional academic hierarchies, this gathering validates their role as cultural architects. They don't simply teach steps—they cultivate confidence, creativity, and community. A conference that treats them as the magic they are transforms professional development from obligation to opportunity.

Looking ahead, we might ask: will this model inspire similar retreats across disciplines? The intersection of celebration and education could redefine how we approach professional growth—not as a burden to endure, but as a gift to receive and share.

Dance the Magic has just announced its Dance Educator Conference, Pixie Dust in Paradise, happening this summer. This event is created for dance educators to gather in an elevated escape to help learn, grow and rejuvenate – surrounded by beauty, intention and a touch of magic. It will be held July 27-31, 2026, at AULANI, A Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, concurrently with Dance the Magic’s 25th anniversary celebration

As Dance the Magic celebrates 25 years, the organization is not only reflecting on its history but also looking ahead. The goal is to inspire studios through unique opportunities while continuing its legacy at the Disney Parks for future dancers and inviting them to be part of more magical moments still to come.
